Yesterday my friends and I biked from the Tai Wai station to Taipo. It's about 9 miles and let me tell you the ride beat me up. Haha, my whole body is sore today. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful ride and a whole lotta of fresh air. When I was biking along the waterside I felt like I was transported from HK to somewhere in China.
By the time we reached Taipo we were ravenous! It took me awhile to figure out how to get the infamous Kwan Kee Beef Brisket Specialist restaurant (supposed to uber tasty and no MSG). Our trek to the restaurant was quite painful as the smell of freshly baked bread and dim sum wafted in the air. ALAS, we found the restaurant... only to discover that they are closed on Sundays. Boo.
We hurried over to a bustling restaurant nearby thinking that they serve dim sum. Turns out that they only serve about six basic dim sum dishes (e.g. meatballs, chicken feet), and what they are famous for are their steamed rice dishes ($17 HDK). No joke, everyone at the restaurant ordered one of these rice dishes. Halfway through eating my order of minced pork with salty octopus (?), my friend notes some newspaper articles on the wall. So apparently they are famous for their special rice. If anyone can read Chinese let me know what's so special about them. This dish only warmed up my palate and apparently most of my friends as well. We went on a eating spree afterwards. I dove into a hot bowl of ginger tofu-fa, which was surprisingly filling, and freshly baked buns.
Is that Shaolong/Shao Wang in the pic? He's a cool guy, we worked on a project together once.
