<3 of food

What's one of my all time favorite activities? EATING. =) So it's only fair that I share with you some of the yummy foods I've tasted. I'll talk about hall life and HKU (its bureaucratic nature, course enrollment, tutorials, etc.) some other time.  Many people claim that fast food here, particularly McDonalds, KFC, and Pizza Hut is completely different (read tasty and fresh) from the States. I'm not a fan of fast food, but I'm willing to give it a go. So far I've tried Pizza Hut and KFC, and YES! it's true, they are WAAAAAYYY better here! Pizza Hut is classified as an upscale restaurant; it serves a variety of soups, salads, starters, and pasta dishes in addition to the unique selection of pizzas. I tried the Ha Ha Crawfish pizza and some sort of curry pizza. The dough is super fresh and chewy. Yum.

Next on the list is KFC. Man, I wish I brought my camera along with me. I tried it this past week and everything you've heard about KFC in Asia is true! It really is "finger lickin' good!" The chicken is juicy and flavorful, though it would've tasted even better if it was spicier. =)

McDonalds are all over Hong Kong; many of them are 24 hours and they even deliver, but I have yet to try it. I'm definitely going to try their new spicy menu and when I head over to Shanghai this upcoming weekend I will get my hands on their taro pie (think McDonalds apple pie but instead of apple it's filled with taro!). Can't wait. McDonalds in HK only serve red bean pie.

Ok enough about fast food joints. Let's move onto fruits.

MANGOSTEEN, one of my all time favorite fruits! I absolutely adore fruits, but there's something about mangosteen that hits the spot, each and every time.

Durian: you either hate it or love it.
Some people cannot even stand the smell of durian (signs like the one above were plastered all over the Chinatown MRT station in Singapore), but I eat durian shamelessly. I was looking forward to getting my durian fixin in Singapore and Malaysia, but durians weren't in season. =( All is well though because Lucky Desserts in HK serves up super fresh and super delicious durian desserts along with other yummy desserts. One of my all time fave dessert there? DURIAN SOUP, bowl of heavenly goodness! brought my friend, who never tried durian to Lucky Dessert, and guess what? She liked the durian soup! Ready for round 2, Susanna? Man, I will definitely miss mangosteen and Lucky Desserts once I head back to the states.

Restaurants here don't give you much veggies, so every time I eat out I have to order a side of veggies with my entree. Regardless, I feel like I'm still not eating enough veggies so tonight I finally made a trip to Wellcome to stock up on them. Ok, I can easily spend hours at Trader Joe's, so can you imagine how much time I could spend shopping at Wellcome? Forever and a day to be exact. I was there for over an hour, and I still was not done perusing the wide selection of unique Asian foods they have there. Besides getting fresh veggies and mushrooms, I picked up a few boxes of instant cereal, ginger milk and dark chocolate.

The ginger milk was good, though it could've been more gingery (ginger=yum) and Lindt's 99% Cocoa was quite bitter, but good as a pure fine taste of cocoas hits you at the very end. You know what's even better? Drinking ginger milk while enjoying the dark chocolate. =)
